I am Soror Demetria Smith, a Spring 2008 initiate into the Eta Mu chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. at East Carolina University and the current Northeastern Region Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator. I also serve as the Parliamentarian of the Gamma Upsilon Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in Monroe, North Carolina.
My professional resume and Sigma resume highlight my experience and expertise in leadership, recruitment, facilitation, advising, and mentorship. I have a deeply rooted passion for this organization and for ensuring that our Sorors can develop within the organization and grow personally and professionally while holding true to our pledge. For the last fourteen years, I have made it my personal objective to educate new and reactivating sorors on the importance of understanding the business of the sorority and maximizing individual potential to maximize the sorority experience.
I am currently serving as the Northeastern Region Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator. Serving in this position, I have been able to successfully support our undergraduates and advisors, the Northeastern Region Board of Directors, our Notable Region, and our beloved sisterhood. Over the last several years, I have served as a mentor and conference workshop facilitator, training sorors on effectively recruiting and retaining quality members, bridging generational gaps between alumnae and undergraduate Sorors, establishing productive Rhoer clubs, and creating original Sigma-branded chapter programming. All of these things have shaped me into a strong leader that can relate to Sorors, Philos, and Rhoers effectively as a leader for this region.
Within my Sigma experience, I have been able to serve as an undergraduate advisor for reactivations and new charters. In serving in this capacity, I have networked with international and regional leadership, campus partners, current sorors, and prospective members in order to support the growth, retention, and expansion of our undergraduate chapters. I have presented workshops and trainings to undergraduates and advisors to support and enhance chapter sustainability. For my own chapter, I have created a training manual to support the work of our advisors.
It has been a pleasure serving as the Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator for the region in which I was inducted and have shaped my Sigma experience. We have done great work, and there is greater work that I look forward to doing, if re-elected!
Demetria A. Smith
